OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Pediatric Occupational Therapy (OT) is a beneficial service that enables children with disabilities to acquire skills for everyday tasks through the use of purposeful activity.  In simpler terms, OT helps kids with their daily activities such as playing, writing, caring for themselves, going to school, using technology, interacting with others, and processing sensory information.

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Most kids who are referred for occupational therapy already have an existing medical or educational diagnosis.  However, at Kids’ Therapy Shop we look beyond their diagnosis and the limitations it may imply. Instead, we focus on the underlying issues. We evaluate the symptoms, work to find causes, and develop a treatment plan based on your child’s unique needs.  As a parent, you know your child better than anyone else, and we encourage you to seek advice and services for your child when desired.

an OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST CAN ASSIST CHILDREN with:

  • Fine and gross motor skills

  • Balance and coordination skills

  • Body awareness and motor planning

  • Visual motor and visual perceptual skills

  • Handwriting skills

  • Attention span and ability to focus

  • Activity level that is unusually high or low

  • Performing activities of daily living

  • School performance

  • Social skills

  • Over or under-sensitive to sensory input including tactile, auditory, taste, smell, movement and pressure touch (light and deep)
